Sofia Schreiber is an illustrator, writer, designer, and educator based in Providence, RI.

She received her BFA in Illustration with a concentration in Literary Arts and Studies from Rhode Island School of Design.

Growing up in a tightly knit New Jersey neighborhood full of big personalities, Sofia was surrounded by stories to absorb. Backyard bonfires, potlucks, birding expeditions, and game nights fostered her love of community. In elementary school, she started a weekly newsletter documenting the happenings on the block with handwritten stories and drawings. Since then, her passion for storytelling has only grown.

Sofia’s art practice always begins with research. She finds value in slowly collecting information by wandering, listening, noticing, sketching, and conversing. She is fascinated by people, their histories, and their obsessions - the things they devote time to, even when no one tells them they should.

Sofia uses wobbly proportions, flattened perspectives, and decorative patterns in her gouache and colored pencil illustrations, but strives to stylize based on lived and observed experience. She desires to create worlds that feel believable and relatable to our own complex emotions and imperfect lives.

Sofia is particularly drawn to stories about food and community, intergenerational or unlikely friendships, kinship with the natural world, sisterhood, and finding joy and connection in the mundane or everyday.

Sofia would love to work on picture books, book and magazine covers, cookbooks, editorial illustration, reportage projects, children’s gift and novelty projects, album art, and murals.

When she’s not making art, she’s probably in the kitchen, whipping up some concoction for her friends and family with an absurd amount of garlic.

Seeking representation.
